Technology Update 2009-09-21

eNo Boards - We have rolled out just under 100 new Polyvision eNo interactive whiteboards to classrooms all over the district. These boards will enable teachers to better utilize technology in the classroom and encourage student interaction.

Distance Learning Lab - A new Distance Learning lab has been installed at the High School. This lab will let Piper host classes to other districts, even other countries! We can also receive hosted classes from other districts, like our current Japanese classes.

Synergistics Lab - A new Synergistics lab has been added to the High School, which will add a new dimension to how students learn various subjects. It utilizes a unique combination of computer software and hands-on activities to enhance the learning process.

400 New Laptops - The district purchased 400 new laptops for staff/student use; 130 for the teaching staff, 81 for the High School, 54 for the 7/8 Middle School, 54 for the 5/6 Middle School, and 81 for the Elementary School. These laptops will replace any aging hardware currently in place, and increase the total number so that fewer students will be without a laptop to use in class.

IP Video Surveillance Expansion - More security cameras have been installed at the High School in an effort to better provide a safe place for staff and students to teach and learn. The new Elementary School building has also been outfitted with security cameras to monitor building entrances and playgrounds.

Voice over IP Phones Expansion - The new Elementary School has been outfitted with the new Cisco IP based telephones.
